The Building Futures in The Gambia charity is always keen to work alongside new friends with the aim of supporting our friends in The Gambia.

Keith and Hilary Walker have been developing projects in The Gambia for many years. In the following piece, Keith tells us how friends of BFiG could possibly support current projects and programmes in The Gambia. WYCE Gambia NGO A78 is in the process of setting up a skills training programme built around the Building and Maintenance trade, as a part of WYCE Gambia NGO A78 aims and objectives. Many project buildings having been constructed since 2003 that now provide the School, Clinic, Lodge and offices.

I am looking to develop the skill centre because all the buildings are in need of constant care and attention. With this in mind I see the opportunity to reignite the roof tile manufacturing business without the need for it to be under pressure to make money from day one. The object of this proposal will be to build a construction team which in the long-term will help provide Skills training to the youths who have been through the education system at WYCE Gambia. The project will generate income and self-sustainability through its work.

Like all things we are looking for start-up funds to cover the first year of the programme.

Also, I am looking for tools, volunteers, trainers anyone who may be interested in helping me to achieve this aim. If you are able to help me in anyway please let me know.

Youth skills training in countries like the Gambia is desperately needed so that new businesses can grow to help the economy of the country.

Can you help supply me with old good quality tools that I can send out as a part of the skills programme. Many of your friends may have old rusty tools hidden away in sheds etc. just gathering dust, never to be used again. Please donate them to me for this programme.

I am looking for tools of many descriptions not just for building.
