Why I Keep Returning to West Africa | It’s An Emotional Thing

People sometimes ask me why I keep returning to West Africa. The answer? It’s woven into these three minutes and twenty-two seconds.

This video isn’t just about BFiG Busumbala Nursery School — although you’ll certainly see the joy and energy of our school community. It captures the whole story of my January 2026 visit: the people, the landscapes, the music, the laughter, the partnerships, and the everyday moments that make Building Futures in The Gambia so much more than a project.

Look out for School Manager Lamin Barrow, along with his wife and five children, who all appear in the film. It’s a reminder that what we’re building is rooted in real families, real friendships and real community.

And here’s the exciting part — I was on the phone to Lamin this evening planning my next two visits to The Gambia and Senegal.

The work continues. The relationships grow stronger. And the story is far from finished.
