Last week, BFiG Busumbala Nursery School Manager ‘Uncle’ Lamin Barrow kicked off a very special meeting in The Gambia. At the start of her return visit, Lamin met up with Helen Gettings, one of the inspiring organisers behind the amazing Sunshine Water Group.

Their work ensures families can access safe, clean water — something that many of us take for granted every single day. They also support local organisations with essential resources where they’re most needed.

📦 Gifts From the Heart: Phones, Clothes & Community Support

Helen didn’t arrive empty-handed. She kindly donated items for ‘Building Futures in The Gambia’ to distribute within local communities. Thanks to her generosity:

📱 Eight brand-new Nokia phones are now in Lamin’s hands.
👶 A suitcase full of new and nearly-new baby clothes is heading to the village of Sankandi.

In Sankandi, Lamin’s mother plays a crucial role in supporting new mothers and their newborns. This incredible donation means she can help even more families — and every item will be hugely appreciated.

🤝 A Growing Network of Good

The Sunshine Water Group has been transforming Gambian communities for years, providing boreholes, education and much-needed support. Right now, Helen and her team are working hard on even more boreholes during their latest visit.

I’ve been chatting with Helen for over a year now. She’s part of my growing list of wonderful online friends who share the same passion for supporting Gambian communities. One day I’ll get to meet them all face-to-face! (Yes, that includes you, Di Miles!) 😊
