We’re So Excited! We Have Water! Amazing!

💧 Water at Last!

After months of getting overly excited about bricks (yes, really), I now get to celebrate something even more everyday… but far more important. BFiG Busumbala Nursery School finally has a tap!
We have water. The children have water. And that changes everything.

🕒 A Long Gambian Wait… Worth Every Second

In The Gambia, things often move at their own beautiful but unpredictable pace. You can fill in the paperwork, pay the bills, give all the right nudges to all the right people… and still, you wait.

Over a year ago, we paid NAWEC (The Gambia National Water & Electricity Company) to connect our school to the water mains. We’ve watched, we’ve hoped, we’ve crossed every available finger…

👉 Today, the waiting ends. The tap is installed, the water is flowing, and our school has its own supply.

School Manager ’Uncle’ Lamin Barrow has been on site all day, supervising the work and sending photos and video updates. Expect to see a lot of happy drips and splashes.

💦 Why This Tap Changes the Game

This isn’t just about turning on a tap. It’s about:

💙 Clean drinking water for our children and staff
🧼 Hygiene and hand-washing at school
🧱 No more begging neighbours for buckets of water just to mix cement
🌱 A future filled with flowers, trees and a beautiful school garden

And yes, we’re already planning! Teacher Mariama has her heart set on bright, blooming bougainvillea around the school. Go on — Google it. Think colour, beauty, and a school that blossoms just like its pupils.

This tap didn’t magically appear. The first drop of water began with Chris Sylla, who visited the school in 2024, saw our need, and immediately started fundraising.
