Hygiene and Tapalapas: We Need A Tap
BFiG Busumbala Nursery School is now benefiting from increasing links with the local Busumbala Community. Our teacher and her family are from Busumbala. Our doors and windows are provided by businesses in Busumbala. Construction work is carried out by local work men under the watchful eye of School Manager Lamin Barrow. Books and pencils are purchased from a stationary shop in Busumbala. However, we need a tap. Read on.
In the video below, you can see how local women now provide our children with a morning snack consisting of a tapalapa (local bread) with a filling. Each child currently pays around 12p a day for this meal. It’s an important meal because most of the children will not have anything to eat before they come to school. It is our hope that one day the charity will be able to pay for this food.
In the mean time, we have to think about water. Our children need water to drink and, crucially, water for hygiene. The children need to wash their hands before they eat. The children needs to wash their hands after they’ve been to the toilet.
