Busy Days, Concrete Blocks, a Surprising Win and Mysterious Holes!

🏫 BFiG Busumbala Nursery School – Busy Days & Brilliant News!

Just a quick update from BFiG Busumbala Nursery School, but there’s plenty to be excited about – the school site is buzzing with busy days, progress and positivity!

🚧 New Toilet Block – Construction Is Nearly Underway

Our amazing School Manager Lamin Barrow has been hard at work overseeing the next major construction project: our brand-new toilet block.

The concrete blocks (bricks) have now been successfully made and are drying in the Gambian sunshine – the crucial first step before construction begins. If you look closely at the latest photos, you’ll notice that the blocks are drying exactly where the toilet building will soon rise from the ground.

Once the blocks are ready and fully cured, work can begin on site – and this marks another vital piece of infrastructure for the children and staff of our growing nursery school. Clean, safe toilet facilities are something many of us take for granted, but they make a huge difference to health, dignity, and daily comfort in schools like ours.

Watching each stage of this project unfold is incredibly rewarding, and it wouldn’t be happening without the kindness and support of everyone who follows and supports Building Futures in The Gambia. 💛

📚 Classroom Activities as Holiday Break Approaches

It’s almost time for a well-earned break for our pupils and teachers. The children will be finishing for the holiday on Friday, and Lamin has sent over some lovely new photos from the classrooms taken today.

Seeing the children learning and playing in their bright little learning space is always a reminder of why this work matters so much. Every brick laid, uniform stitched, pencil sharpened, and lesson taught represents another step toward rebuilding opportunities and futures within the Busumbala community.

We’re so proud of how far the school has come in such a short time – and we can’t wait to welcome the children back after the break to an even better learning environment.

🎟️ A Lucky Win for the Charity!

I’ve also got a surprising bit of good news to share…

I’ve just found out that I was awarded Second Prize in the monthly First Aid 4 Gambia Raffle – worth £25.90, which is going straight into the BFiG charity bank account! Every pound truly counts toward keeping our projects moving forward, so this was a wonderful little boost.

Huge thanks go to Bill Nelson and the team at First Aid 4 Gambia, who do absolutely stirling work across The Gambia, providing official first aid qualifications and vital first aid supplies to schools and institutions.

Looking ahead, we’re delighted that BFiG Busumbala Nursery School will receive first aid training in the future once we have more staff fully in place (hopefully very soon). This will be an invaluable resource for keeping our children safe and well.

If you’d like to learn more about their work or even join the monthly raffle yourself, please check out:

Supporting organisations like these strengthens the entire network of grassroots education and care across the region.

🐄 A Very Curious Mystery…

And finally… something completely unexpected!

Mysterious holes containing cow pats have begun appearing on the BFiG Busumbala Nursery School grounds…

Why is this happening?
Who (or what!) might be responsible?
And what does this mean for our school site?

All will be revealed very, very soon – keep your eyes peeled for the next update! 👀

💛 Thank You for Building Futures With Us

Every update we share is only possible thanks to the incredible community of supporters walking this journey with us. From classroom resources and uniforms to walls, gates, toilets, trees, and training – your generosity is making tangible, life-changing differences on the ground in The Gambia.
