Busumbala Nursery School – November 2020 Update 2
Busumbala Nursery School is opening. Here are the outcomes of today’s first meeting between the Busumbala Village Development Committe and members of the local Busumbala Community. Lamin Barrow attended and represented the charity. He took photos and videos which appear below. The meeting took place in the newly completed classroom 1:
– New pupil registration will take place on Monday 23rd November 2020;
– Registration will cost 50 Gambian Dalasi (around 73p English money);
– A termly fee for each pupil will be agreed at a later time when pupils have been registered;
– The VDC has appointed a volunteer teacher who will help get the school up and running. This will become a paid appointment when the school finances become clearer;
– Local volunteers will also act as water collectors and cleaners for the school;- The number of children in the first class will be 30-50;- School uniform will be chosen at a later date;
– The first classroom will be named ‘The Farafang Jatta’ classroom in honour of the Busumbala Committee member who initially helped drive the project. He sadly passed away shortly after the building project began;
– Lamin Barrow will help promote the school and take tourists to visit and, hopefully, support the project in any way they think appropriate. This will have to take place after Covid restrictions have eased. The Gambia is currently suffering from the lack of a tourist season due to Coronavirus;
– And finally, the school should open on Monday 30th November.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this project so far. Each and everyone of you owns a small chunk of Busumbala Nursery. You are responsible for bringing education to a village which is currently seriously lacking in nursery aged school provision.
