A Rainy Start… But We’re Back! We’re Really Excited!
🌧️ A Rainy Start… But We’re Back!
Today was the official reopening of BFiG Busumbala Nursery School — and what a dramatic start it was! Our School Manager, Lamin Barrow, sent over photos and videos showing torrential rain AND a sandstorm sweeping across Busumbala this morning.
No wonder many of our pupils stayed home. When you see the video below, you’ll totally understand! What a rainy start! 🌪️🌧️
🌿 Community Spirit: Grounds Cleared After the Rainy Season
The Rainy Season brings life to The Gambia… and a whole lot of overgrowth!
To get the school ready, Lamin hired members of the local community to help clear the vegetation across the grounds. We always love when the school supports local work. What’s left will dry out naturally once the rains stop and the sun bakes the land again. 🌞🌱
👀 Spot the Mystery Addition!
There’s a brand new, very important change in one of today’s videos… but we’re not saying what just yet!
Can you see it?
Take a guess 👇🙂🙂🙂
(Don’t worry — we’ll reveal all soon!)

🚪 Gates Coming Soon!
Our newly built school wall is waiting for its final finishing touch: two brand-new gates!
The local gate installer is currently busy elsewhere (he must be the most in-demand man in Busumbala!), but once he arrives, we’ll finally secure the school site.
And when that happens, we’ll be giving a HUGE shout-out to Albert Pritchard Infant and Wood Green Junior Federated Schools and Matthew Wilmot, whose support made the gates possible. 💙
🌳 Next Stop: Trees, Shade & School Gardens
Once the gates are in place, we’ll finally be able to plant trees and flowering plants around the school grounds — safe from wandering cows and sheep!
That’s when we’ll be celebrating the hard work of Emmanuel School in Walsall, whose children spent the end of last term fundraising so our pupils in The Gambia could have shade, beauty, fruit and learning opportunities through gardening. 🍊🌳💚
🌟 Step by Step, We’re Building Futures
Every video, every cleared patch of land, every gate, every tree brings us closer to a safe, beautiful, fully functioning school for the children of Busumbala.
Exciting times ahead — thank you for being part of the journey! 🙌
