Celebrating Albert Pritchard Infant and Wood Green Junior Federated Schools & Matthew Wilmot
There are supporters… and then there are champions.
Over the past few years, Albert Pritchard Infant and Wood Green Junior Federated School — led with passion and purpose by Teacher and Curriculum Leader Matthew Wilmot — have become true partners of Building Futures in The Gambia. What they’ve achieved goes far beyond fundraising. They’ve built a living connection between Wednesbury and Busumbala.
đź’› Super Kindness in Action
Their unforgettable Super Kindness Day showed what happens when compassion becomes action.
Through creative fundraising and whole-school involvement, the Federation raised an incredible ÂŁ1,154.60 for BFiG Busumbala Nursery School.
That funding has helped provide:
- Cement for the perimeter wall
- Materials for secure gates
- Improved toilet facilities
- Resources for expanding classrooms
Every pound raised in Wednesbury has translated into visible, structural change in The Gambia.
🎥 Assemblies That Cross Continents
Thanks to Matthew Wilmot’s leadership, pupils haven’t just heard about the project — they’ve seen it.
Through assemblies and updates, children have followed:
- The completion of the wall
- Installation of gates
- Construction of new toilets
- Continued growth of the school
Charity has become tangible. Real faces. Real progress. Real impact.
🌱 More Than Bricks and Mortar
The Federation’s support has shaped global understanding as well as school buildings.
They have encouraged empathy, global awareness and responsibility — helping pupils understand that their actions can change lives 3,000 miles away.

📡 Livestreaming Across Continents – Twice!
During my most recent visit to The Gambia in January, we strengthened that connection even further — with two live broadcasts.
🎤 Livestream One: 500+ Pupils
From BFiG Busumbala Nursery School, I livestreamed to over 500 pupils across the Federation, updating them on all the changes since the previous year.
They saw the completed wall, new gates, toilet construction and school development — live.
The children could now witness the results of their generosity in real time.
🌾 Livestream Two: Year 1 Visit to Lisa’s Legacy Farm
Later that week, I livestreamed specifically to the Year 1 pupils, who are learning about the differences between England and The Gambia.
They wanted to understand farming — so we took them straight to Lisa’s Legacy Farm in Sankandi.
Among the crops, we talked about:
- What grows in The Gambia
- How farming supports families
- The importance of climate and water
Geography and global learning came alive in the West African sunshine.
🌍 A True Partnership
Because of the champions at Albert Pritchard Infant and Wood Green Junior Federated School:
- Children in Busumbala learn in a safer environment
- Facilities continue to improve
- Global citizenship is being lived, not just taught
