A Cold Day! Shiny New School Gates!
🚪 Our Shiny New School Gates Have Arrived!
There’s a huge feeling of excitement at BFiG Busumbala Nursery School this week — our shiny new school gates have been painted, delivered, and are ready for installation! They’re looking absolutely wonderful and mark another proud milestone in our journey to create a safe, welcoming learning environment for the children.
School Manager Lamin Barrow has been on what can only be described as a cement treasure hunt — a challenging task at the moment as cement is currently in short supply across The Gambia. But, in typical Lamin fashion, success prevailed! With cement now secured, the gates will be installed as soon as the builders arrive to start producing blocks (bricks) for our new toilet block — another crucial step in improving facilities for our pupils.

These gates — along with the entire boundary wall — have been made possible thanks to the incredible efforts of Matthew Wilmot and the wonderful pupils, staff, and supporters at Albert Pritchard Infant and Wood Green Junior Federated Schools.
Their commitment over the past academic year has been nothing short of inspirational. Through fundraising, community events, and sheer determination, they have helped turn the vision of a safe, protected school site into reality. This project is quite literally built on their generosity. We’ll be sharing more about their amazing journey very soon — it’s a story well worth telling!
🧥 A Surprise Cold Snap in The Gambia
In this week’s photos sent over by our brilliant teacher Mariama “Sibo” Fatty, you’ll notice something you don’t often see in Gambian classrooms — coats! The recent weather has been unusually cool, and the children have been keeping warm while continuing their lessons.
You’ll also spot them proudly modelling their colourful Friday t-shirts, bringing a splash of fun and personality to the classroom as always. Huge thanks to Sibo for capturing these lovely moments — it’s always such a joy to see the children smiling, learning, and thriving.
🌿 Sunday Sweat: Keeping the Grounds Clear
Last Sunday, while many of us were putting our feet up, Lamin Barrow was hard at work completing the annual school grounds clear-up. This is a labour-intensive task that has to be done every year due to rapid growth following the rainy season.
It’s tough work, but absolutely essential to keep the school safe, tidy, and accessible for our pupils. We hope that one day we’ll be able to fund a more permanent solution to manage this ongoing issue — but until then, Lamin’s dedication keeps everything running smoothly.
